Llanfor - Geophysical Survey
This survey conducted in advance of the National Eisteddfod in 1997 clearly demonstrates
what can be achieved with detailed geophysical survey. The
sub-rectangular feature located at the bottom of the plot is a ROMAN
FORT, the circular feature, above center, is a PREHISTORIC
BURIAL, the numerous parallel lines at the top represent RIDGE
and FURROW ploughing. The
rectangular feature top left is the corner of a ROMAN
MARCHING CAMP, and the line intersecting the camp and the fort is
the boundary of a ROMAN CIVILIAN SETTLEMENT.
In amongst all this evidence of PREHISTORIC FIELD
BOUNDARIES are present.

A Prehistoric Round-House Wimpole Cambridgeshire.
Evaluation and Appraisal
Surveys to define the archaeological
potential are recommended for all construction projects as this could
prevent unnecessary delay and expense at
a more sensitive point of the program.
